28th Annual Sherman Arts Festival

28th year!! Once again the Sherman Municipal Lawn turns into a glorious hub of activity for this annual welcome to autumn. September (tba), 2010. Featuring a Judged Art Show & Sale for ages 18 and up, Youth Art Show, Woodcarving Show & Sale; 5K, 15K and Fun Run, Continual Live Music, Pumpkin Patch, Pancake Breakfast, Used Book Sale, Museum Tours, T-shirt Painting for kids, Food Vendors galore and up to 100 Arts & Craft Vendors. It's a great place to begin your holiday shopping

Sherman Art League Fine Art Show & Sale 2009

For original work (artists 18 and older). SAL membership not required to enter. Cash awards.

Pre-Registration (July 1 thru Sep 5); download entry form (Click 'download' below), complete & mail with fee to SAL Exhibition, P O Box 222, Sherman, TX 75091 Art work to be received on Thursday, Sept. 17, 10:30 - 2:30 PM at the Sherman Municipal Ballroom, 405 N. Rusk; judging will take place that afternoon at 3:30 PM. Show Opening and Critique at 7:30 PM, followed by Reception.

Show opens to the public Friday, Sept. 18 and runs 9 AM- 5 PM Friday and Saturday, Sept. 19.

Students in grades K - 12 are eligible. No school district/residency requirement. One entry per student. Entries accepted 10 AM - 4:30 PM, Wed., Sept. 16, 2009 at the Sherman Youth Center, 407 W. Washington.

Show open to the public 10 AM- 5 PM, Sept. 18 and 19.

Teddy Bear Parade

Bear-lovers of all ages are invited to join in the parade! 9:00 a.m, Sept. 19.!

There will be a judged contest for bears belonging to children aged 0 - 13, with awards, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place for these age categories: 0- 5; 6 -10; 11 - 13. Sign up for judging from 8:45 - 9 a.m. in front of Honey McGee Playhouse, located behind (west of) the Finley Theatre Playhouse on 313 W. Mulberry Street.

Story Telling at Theatricks

Theatricks once again this year will be hosting story-telling at the Sherman Arts Festival September 19, 2009. The story-telling events will kick off at 10 a.m. inside the Honey McGee Playhouse at 313 W. Mulberry Street in Sherman - right after the Altrusa Club’s Teddy Bear Parade. Storytellers will be telling stories every hour with the last storyteller starting at 12 noon.

This year, traveling storytellers will be going out into the Arts Festival Crowd and improvising stories with the crowd members themselves. So, be sure to come and share a good story with us, and of course enjoy some of the cool air inside the Honey McGee Playhouse.

Fall Used Book Sale

The Friends of the Sherman Public Library will once again host their Fall Used Book Sale in conjunction with the Sherman Arts Festival.

You may take the TAPS bus from the Municipal Lawn to the Library, or just drive over to 421 N. Travis for the best selection of books this side of your grandma's attic.

Opens Saturday, Sept 19 from 8 AM to 4 PM.

Directions to the Festival

The Sherman Arts Festival takes place on the Municipal Lawn which sits right across the street from Bearcat Stadium. The stadium is right on Hwy 75 so it's a snap to find! Whether coming north or south on US Hwy 75, exit at Washington Street and go east one block. The lawn sits on Rusk Street, one block east of 75 and one block south on Rusk. It is surrounded by Pecan, Elm and Mulberry Streets. The area will be closed off to cars, but there will be ample parking on the side streets.

Almost Patsy Cline Band Concert on Sautrday night will be in the Kidd-Key Auditorium, located on the Municipal Grounds, with adjacent parking.
